With preview season for Streets of New Capenna in full swing, we’ve been treated to some incredible new cards! But this morning, a new equipment was previewed that might be one of the best ones in the game. It’s an insane combo piece and even if it’s used fairly, it’s still pretty darn good. Let’s take a look at it and it’s big combo potential.
Lightsabers!

The card in question is Luxior, Giada’s Gift. This is a 1 mana equipment, with an Equip planeswalker for 1, and normal Equip for 3. It’s abilities are that the Equipped creature gets +1/+1 for each counter on it, and the Equipped permanent isn’t a planeswalker, and is a creature in addition to its other types.
While it may seem tempting to slap this on a planeswalker, that’s the fair usage of the card. Where this gets nuts is when this is put on a creature, and a very specific creature,
Devoted Druid
Devoted Druid
{T}: Add {G}.
Put a -1/-1 counter on this creature: Untap this creature.

Wombo Combo

When you combo Devoted Druid and Luxior, you can generate infinite mana in Modern. When you untap Devoted druid, it adds a -1/-1 counter onto the creature, which is effectively negated by the +1/+1 from Luxior. The earliest that we can get this combo assembled is Turn 3, but from there we can end the game with a couple powerful cards.

The two cards that really come to mind here are
Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
This spell can't be countered.
When you cast this spell, take an extra turn after this one.
Flying, protection from spells that are one or more colors, annihilator 6
When Emrakul is put into a graveyard from anywhere, its owner shuffles their graveyard into their library.
and
Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger
Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger
When you cast this spell, exile two target permanents.
Indestructible
Whenever Ulamog attacks, defending player exiles the top twenty cards of their library.
. We can generate enough mana to cast both of these and send our opponent’s back to the stone age. If we dodge
Solitude
Solitude
Flash
Lifelink
When this creature enters, exile up to one other target creature. That creature's controller gains life equal to its power.
Evoke—Exile a white card from your hand.
, then we’re in business.
We can use cards like
Stoneforge Mystic
Stoneforge Mystic
When this creature enters, you may search your library for an Equipment card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle.
{1}{W}, {T}: You may put an Equipment card from your hand onto the battlefield.
or
Urza’s Saga
Urza’s Saga
(As this Saga enters and after your draw step, add a lore counter. Sacrifice after III.)
I — This Saga gains "{T}: Add {C}."
II — This Saga gains "{2}, {T}: Create a 0/0 colorless Construct artifact creature token with 'This token gets +1/+1 for each artifact you control.'"
III — Search your library for an artifact card with mana cost {0} or {1}, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle.
to fetch up our Luxior, and then use cards like
Eladamri’s Call
Eladamri’s Call
Search your library for a creature card, reveal that card, put it into your hand, then shuffle.
to fetch up our big threats. If we REALLY want to dig deep, this also combos with
Flourishing Defenses
Flourishing Defenses
Whenever a -1/-1 counter is put on a creature, you may create a 1/1 green Elf Warrior creature token.
, creating infinite 1/1 Elf Warrior creatures.

Playing Fair
If we want to try and leverage this as a fair card, then we need to look at planeswalkers that have a good ratio of casting cost to starting loyalty / turn 1 loyalty. We want cards that have a lower casting cost, but have a loyalty number that’s higher than it’s cost after we activate a + ability once. There’s a handful of them, so here’s what those are.

To preface this, this is more than likely going to be used in Commander, rather than in any 60 card constructed formats for obvious reasons. So first up,
Chandra, Awakened Inferno
Chandra, Awakened Inferno
This spell can't be countered.
+2: Each opponent gets an emblem with "At the beginning of your upkeep, this emblem deals 1 damage to you."
−3: Chandra deals 3 damage to each non-Elemental creature.
−X: Chandra deals X damage to target creature or planeswalker. If a permanent dealt damage this way would die this turn, exile it instead.
is awesome because it’s uncounterable, it puts a ticking dot on your opponents and then becomes an 8/8 with Luxior.
Next up,
Dakkon, Shadow Slayer
Dakkon, Shadow Slayer
Dakkon enters with a number of loyalty counters on him equal to the number of lands you control.
+1: Surveil 2.
−3: Exile target creature.
−6: You may put an artifact card from your hand or graveyard onto the battlefield.
can honestly be as big as you want him to be. He comes in loyalty counters equal to the number of lands we control, and then we can to make him 1 bigger and surveil 2.
The next couple ones are great choices from War of the Spark,
Huatli, the Sun’s Heart
Huatli, the Sun’s Heart
Each creature you control assigns combat damage equal to its toughness rather than its power.
−3: You gain life equal to the greatest toughness among creatures you control.
and
Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner
Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner
Whenever a creature you control with power 4 or greater enters, draw a card.
−1: Untap target permanent.
are both 3 mana, and come in with 7 loyalty, which can pose a serious threat very early on in a game.
Lastly, we have the Karn Father himself,
Karn Liberated
Karn Liberated
+4: Target player exiles a card from their hand.
−3: Exile target permanent.
−14: Restart the game, leaving in exile all non-Aura permanent cards exiled with Karn. Then put those cards onto the battlefield under your control.
. With the Tron lands at our disposal, we could turn Karn into a 10/10 very quickly while exiling a card from our opponent’s hand.
