The new Standard 2022 metagame is a really fun place. There’s a lot of diversity in the decks that you’ll see on the ladder, and there’s a good amount of decks represented in Tournament finishes. New decks are constantly popping up all the time, and today, we’re going to look at 2 really spicy ones that utilize a very unlikely card from Strixhaven.
Both of these decks have hit Mythic on the ladder, and the card that’s being used here is

You can't cast permanent spells.
{4}, {T}: Add {W}{U}{B}{R}{G}. When you next cast a spell this turn, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile an instant or sorcery card with lesser mana value. Until end of turn, you may cast that card without paying its mana cost. Put each other card exiled this way on the bottom of your library in a random order.
. The Strixhaven artifact creature hasn’t seen any play in nearly any format except commander, but this new standard format is opening the door for this card to see some love! The first deck that we have is Mardu Codie, by Daniel Bitel

• Creatures you control get +1/+0 and gain indestructible and haste until end of turn.
• Lorehold Command deals 3 damage to any target. Target player gains 3 life.
• Sacrifice a permanent, then draw two cards.
. It then closes the game out using Velomachus Lorehold. Codie comes in with the Learn board, where we can find Mascot Exhibition, cast that and spin into some other great spells. One thing to note here, is that the deck plays 1

At the beginning of your upkeep, choose target opponent. Until end of turn, that player can't cast spells, you may look at the top card of their library any time, you may play the top card of their library, and you may spend mana as though it were mana of any color to cast spells this way.
and Return Upon the Tide to reanimate it. I’d imagine that this is a really cheeky strategy. Yes it can help us continue our game plan by not allowing our opponents to respond to what we’re doing, but we have to untap with it. I think this more so opens up additional lines of play with Burning-Rune Demon.

The second list here is Jeskai Codie by ZeroisEven over on Twitter. This deck is a bit more on the control side of decks. Some of the same cards that were in the Mardu deck are here, Lorehold Command, Velomachus Lorehold, Starheim Unleashed. Where this differs is that we get to play some more control elements, like Rip Apart and

• Target player draws two cards, then discards two cards.
• Target player creates a Treasure token.
• Destroy target artifact.
. Our finish here is definitely more focused on Velomachus and [/tooltips]Alrund’s Epiphany[/tooltips].
This is also another deck that’s Mythic viable, and if you look through the Twitter thread, Zero shows some of the screenshots from their games to show what the deck is capable of.
